Man hit by car, killed in Monroe Township parking lot

The crash remains under investigation.

A man died Saturday after he was was struck by a car in Monroe Township.

John R. Hernandez, 50, of Monroe, Mich., was struck by the car driven by Cody A. Klug, 24, also of Monroe, Mich., according to a  Monroe County Sheriff’s Office release. The crash occurred on Saturday morning at approximately 1:40 a.m. 

Mr. Klug was reportedly backing out of a parking space, when he struck Mr. Hernandez, the report shows. Deputies reported that “Mr. Klug was unaware that Mr. Hernandez had been next to the vehicle at the time of the crash.”

Mr. Hernandez was transported to ProMedica Toledo Hospital where he died of his injuries.

Mr. Klug was not injured during the incident. Deputies reported that “neither speed nor alcohol appears to be a factor” in the incident, which remains under investigation.
