FINDLAY — One of two men who were beaten outside a Findlay bar in mid-December died on New Year’s Eve, the Findlay Police Department reported Wednesday.

Gregory Hammer, 53, and his brother Darryl Hammer, 47, both of Findlay, were found in the parking lot at Walnut Saloon, 335 Walnut St., during the early morning hours of Dec. 16, police said. Gregory was found unconscious on the ground with head injuries while Darryl, who had facial injuries, told police they had been assaulted by multiple men.

Gregory Hammer died in Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, where he had been transferred by helicopter from Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay on the night of the attack.

Police said Tuesday they have identified a “person of interest” they would like to interview, but so far have made no arrests.

“The case is expected to be presented to the Hancock County Grand Jury in the coming weeks,” a police statement read in part.
