Highway patrol to crack down on speeding, impaired driving this weekend
2/16/2018The Ohio Highway Patrol, Michigan State Police, and Kentucky State Police have announced a crackdown this weekend on traffic enforcement along I-75 to address speeding, impaired driving, and non-compliance with seat-belt laws.
The campaign will start at 12:01 a.m. Friday and end at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, according to a statement from the 6-State Trooper Project, which coordinates special enforcement programs among those three states and Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Indiana, as appropriate.
“Troopers look for violations that can contribute to or cause fatal crashes, including speed, safety belt, and OVI,” Col. Paul Pride, the Ohio patrol’s superintendent, said in a prepared statement. “The goal is for every motorist in Ohio and our neighboring states to arrive safely at their destination.”
Drug or alcohol impairment was ruled a factor in 14,418 crashes last year in Ohio that resulted in 397 deaths — 34 percent of all traffic fatalities — and 8,823 injuries.
