Candidate tries want ad to get debate with rival

A candidate for state representative placed a classified advertisement in The Blade yesterday seeking a debate opponent.

Christopher Myers, a University of Michigan Web master who is running in District 49 against State Rep. Jeanine Perry (D., Toledo), said he believes that candidate forums will not give him and his opponent enough time to discuss the issues.

He said in the advertisement that the time at the forums provides only 12 minutes for debating.

Mr. Myers said he placed the ad after reading an article in The Blade on Sept. 28 in which Ms. Perry said that the joint appearances would give voters enough opportunities to see the differences in the two candidates.

Ms. Perry said yesterday that she believes voters will have ample opportunity before the election to hear from the two candidates.

She noted she had two campaign events scheduled last night as well as other events coming up, some of which were joint appearances with Mr. Myers.
