Elections board chooses director in Fulton County

8/3/2005

WAUSEON The Fulton County Board of Elections last night unanimously chose Brett Kolb as its next director, effective Jan. 1. Current Director Gloria Marlatt is retiring Dec. 31.

Both Mr. Kolb, who was recommended by the Fulton County Republican Party central committee, and Ms. Marlatt are Republicans.

Mr. Kolb, 38, has been a Clinton Township trustee since 1998. He said he will fulfill his current term, which ends Dec. 31, but will not run again, which would be prohibited for an elections employee.

He will begin today at the elections board as an employee and will be paid $10 an hour until Jan. 1 as he learns the duties of the position. In December, the elections board will set his salary for next year. Ms. Marlatt, who has been director since 1992, is paid $33,666 a year.

Mr. Kolb was one of four candidates interviewed last month by the Republican Party s central committee s executive committee, of which he is a member. He was chosen by a 10-0 vote; four members of the executive committee were absent.
