Two new candidates are in the race for Toledo City Council's six at-large seats - medical sales representative Ty Daniels and truck driver Michael Watson.

Mr. Daniels, 42, of 1450 Eastgate Rd. announced his candidacy Monday. Mr. Watson, 44, of 1634 Amesbury Rd. planned an announcement yesterday. Both are running as political independents.

Mr. Watson was a speaker at the recent Tax Day Tea Party rally in Toledo and said his goal is to protect families and small-business owners from higher taxes.

He said he is the father of four and is a long-time Toledoan. He is also an Army veteran and member of the American Legion. He was a tank gunner on a six-year tour of duty that ended in 1989.

Mr. Daniels, father of two, said he is running "to return reason and order to city government." He said the trash fee is double taxation, and criticized reductions in public safety to balance the budget.

Mr. Daniels, who lived on Broadway in South Toledo as a child and moved with his family to Pemberville, said he moved back to Toledo in 1990 to work for Savage and Associates. He has a bachelor's degree in finance from Bowling Green State University.
