Candidate for governor- to address GOP dinner

7/7/2009

John Kasich, a Republican candidate for governor and a former nine-term U.S. congressman from Ohio, will headline the Lucas County Republican Party's Lincoln Day Dinner July 30.

Tickets for the social hour at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. at Gladieux Meadows, 4480 Heatherdowns Blvd., are $45 for a single, $75 a couple, and $300 for a table.

Tickets to the chairman's reception with Mr. Kasich and other guests, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., is $250 per person.

Mr. Kasich, 57, was a member of Congress from the Columbus suburb of Westerville from 1983 to 2001.

Top party leaders and county chairmen voted unanimously June 26 to recommend that the state GOP endorse Mr. Kasich when it meets in September, said John McClelland, spokesman for the Ohio Republican Party.

Mr. McClelland said the party's bylaws do not allow endorsements so there would first have to be a vote to suspend the rules.

Also seeking the party's endorsement is State Sen. Kevin Coughlin (R., Cuyahoga Falls), who has urged party leaders to let voters decide who should be the candidate.

The annual Lincoln Day Dinner is a prime fund-raiser for the Lucas County Republican Party with proceeds going to help fund party operations and candidates in the upcoming municipal elections.
