LANSING -- Michigan lawmakers yesterday finished the key votes needed to confirm Feb. 28 as the state's date for the 2012 Republican presidential primary.

The Republican-led House passed a measure confirming the date 63-45, mostly a party-line vote. The Republican-led Senate has passed the bill and will soon send it to Republican Gov. Rick Snyder for his signature.

Mr. Snyder intends to sign the legislation pending a final review once it reaches his desk, spokesman Sara Wurfel said.

Michigan Democrats voted against the election plan, saying that it would cost $10 million and that the state could find better uses for the money.
