Voters cast ballots today for tax levies, candidates

Voters in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan will decide several levy issues and party nominees in special election and primary races today.

Polls in Ohio in areas holding special elections are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. In Michigan, polls for the primary election will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In northwest Ohio, six area school districts and two villages have levy requests, including a 6.75-mill operating levy request for the Lake Local School District that was defeated twice in 2011. Swanton, Clyde-Green Springs, Margaretta, Bryan, and Edon Northwest schools also have levy requests. The villages of Delta and Kelleys Island are seeking levy approvals as well.

In addition to other races, Michigan voters will select party nominees for U.S. House, U.S. Senate, and state House races.

The Monroe County ballot will contain bus transportation proposals, fire millage requests, a new millage request for the Monroe County Historical Museum, and a renewal proposal for the Monroe County Library.
