Toledo City Councilman D. Michael Collins, a candidate for mayor, will hold a news conference today at 1:30 p.m. to announce his plan to revitalize local neighborhoods.

At the news conference, which he is holding at the closed West Toledo police station, 2328 W. Sylvania Ave., Mr. Collins said he planned to discuss increased partnerships with neighborhoods and a shift of funding from “government bureaucracy” directly to neighborhoods and their revitalization organizations.

Mr. Collins also said in a statement announcing the news conference that he would propose an initiative in which community members would take more control cleaning up neighborhoods.

The two top vote-getters of eight candidates in the Sept. 10 primary will face off in the Nov. 5 general election.
