Dayton firms win recent DoD contracts

A trio of Dayton-area companies has been awarded key Department of Defense contracts in recent days.

The Walsh-Butt Joint Venture, a joint venture of Dayton’s Butt Construction and the Walsh Group in Chicago, was awarded a nearly $12.6 million contract last week to convert two central heating plants at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base from coal to natural gas, according to a federal notice. The project also includes the demolition of coal and ash handling, conveying and storage equipment, including an ash silo, four 550-ton coal storage towers, crusher and transfer towers and more. The work will help the base meet national air pollutant standards for boilers and other sources.

The joint venture has worked together at Wright-Patterson before, including on a $90 million renovation of Wright-Patterson Medical Center in the spring of 2012.

Technical and research contractor Cornerstone Research Group, of Beavercreek Twp., was recently awarded a $200,187 contract for sensor work at Wright-Patterson.

And Radiance Technologies Inc. — based in Huntsville, Ala., but with an office at 5100 Springfield St. — was awarded a $199,200 contract for work on a three-dimensional packaging platform. The company performs engineering, intelligence and other work for the DoD.
