8 council candidates advance in Maumee
9/11/2013In the Maumee council primary, voters advanced eight of nine candidates to the general election.
Danny Cobb, the lone Libertarian running, likely won’t appear on the Nov. 5 ballot, according to unofficial results from the Lucas County Board of Elections. Only 21 votes separated him from incumbent Democrat Mike Coyle, who had the second lowest number of votes.
Board of Elections Director Meghan Gallagher said uncounted provisional ballots could trigger an automatic recount.
Four incumbents are defending their seats. The primary was held because more than twice that number ran for council.
Those incumbents, Republicans Brent Buehrer, Timothy L. Pauken, and Julie Rubini and Mr. Coyle, will appear on the ballot in November along with Democratic challengers John M. Schafer, Hal R. Simon, Tom Wagener, Jr., and Maria Zapiecki.
Also Tuesday, in one Maumee precinct, voters overwhelmingly approved a local option to allow wine, mixed beverages, and liquor to be sold between 11 a.m. and midnight Sundays inside and on the patio at Santa Ana LLC, doing business as La Fiesta, 1406 Reynolds Rd.
