Toledo City Council Wednesday reviewed a Bell administration plan to invest in a tire recycling operation with money from a state grant that requires a local match.

The administration will ask council next week to authorize an agreement with Stickney Recycling and accept a $200,000 Ohio Environmental Protection Agency grant. The city would have to contribute up to $204,000 to match the grant. The company will use the money to buy scrap tire recycling equipment, said city public service director Ed Moore.

Stickney Recycling will be required to repay the city its contribution over five years, Mr. Moore said. Scrap tires are currently sent to Fostoria, Mr. Moore said.
