Perryburg fire division $10K beyond budget in overtime spending

Police is $26K under; Fire chief cites abnormally high injury rate

The Perrysburg fire division's overtime spending is $10,456.74 over budget for this point in the year.

During a report Tuesday on a previous service-safety committee meeting, Perrysburg city councilman John Kevern blamed the overrun on injuries. Fire Chief Jeff Klein told the committee the department's injury rate during the past four years has been the highest of his 20 years in Perrysburg, the councilman said.

The police division's overtime spending, meanwhile, is $26,000 under budget so far this year, Mr. Kevern told council.

By a 6-0 vote, Perrysburg City Council approved buying 1,000 tons of road salt for $32,520 from Morton Salt, Inc., through the Ohio Department of Transportation's statewide price of $32.52 per ton.

Council also approved re-zoning property at 399 West Boundary St. from single-unit residential to neighborhood commercial to reflect its long-time use as a veterinary office, at the request of landowner Donald Knepper. The property will revert to residential zoning if the veterinary use is discontinued for two years or if the building is 60 percent or more damaged.
