A 10-week leadership academy will be offered beginning Jan. 27 for public officials, people considering running for public office, or people who just want a better understanding of public leadership.

The program is sponsored by the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce Leadership Fund, the Ohio State University Extension Service, and the Sea Grant Program. In 2012, the course received Ohio State Extension’s friend of community development award.

Teaching the program will be state Rep. Barbara Sears (R., Monclova Township), Toledo City Councilman Tom Waniewski, and Tony Reams, president of the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments.

The course covers public service and conducting meetings, leadership skills, building sustainable communities, government finance, ethics, intergovernmental relations and economic development, conflict management, and dispute resolution. The cost is $250 and includes a light meal before each session. Classes are at 300 Madison Ave. in Toledo.
