Toledo City Council today voted 12-0 to acquire and demolish the vacant former Clarion Hotel in South Toledo as part of a plan to attract a new retailer to the Southwyck commercial district.

The move allows the city administration to acquire the 11-floor Clarion, 2340 Reynolds Rd., from the Lucas County Land Bank after the title has been cleared.

Mayor D. Michael Collins has said a chain retailer is interested in opening in the former Kmart store on Reynolds Road at Southwyck Boulevard. But he said they would not consider the move unless the hotel was taken down.
