FREMONT — Joe Michles, who narrowly lost election to Fremont City Council in November, has been appointed to fill a vacant at-large seat.

The Sandusky County Democratic Party on Thursday named Mr. Michles to fill the opening. He was the only applicant for the spot left vacant when Councilman Dallas Leake was appointed council president.

Mr. Michles ran without party affiliation in November against two other candidates to represent the 4th Ward, losing to Republican Robert Gross by 10 votes.

Mr. Michles repeatedly raised concerns about the cost of the city’s reservoir project and other related issues and said he will advocate for more accessible, televised meetings once he’s sworn in March 6.

His term will end Dec. 31, 2015.
