Lucas County Board of Commissioners pass resolution urging voters to support State Issue 1

'The Lucas County Board of Commissioners today passed a resolution urging voters to support State Issue 1, which would provide Ohio with $1.875 billion to use for infrastructure improvements during the next five years.

The Renewal of the State Capital Improvements Program will go before voters on the May 6 primary election ballot.

Lucas County has received $181 million over the past 27 years through the bond renewal project, County Commissioner Carol Contrada said during a news conference held today prior to the commissioners meeting.

"For 27 years the program has been successful for Ohio," she said. "It has helped support more than 11,500 road and water and sewer improvement projects in 88 counties." 

Several Democrat and Republican elected officials gathered to speak in support of the capital improvements program.

Whitehouse Mayor Jen Crandall said the bond renewal would not raise voters' taxes.

"It issues bonds to generate new funds," Mayor Crandall said.
