TIFFIN — Dave Sauber, a former Seneca County commissioner who cast the lone vote against demolishing the 1884 county courthouse, filed a petition Monday to run as an independent for commissioner in the November general election.

Mr. Sauber lost a re-election bid in 2012 when Commissioner Holly Stacy defeated him in the Republican primary.

The year before he voted against a contract to tear down the courthouse. The measure was approved with support from Commissioner Jeff Wagner, who is not seeking re-election. Two Republicans, Mike Kerschner of Tiffin and Philip Frankart of New Riegel, will face off in the primary today. No Democrats are running for the post.
