Jerry Parker, a lawyer for Gressley, Kaplin & Parker of Toledo, for DJF Properties, petitioned property at 5904 Alexis Rd. and 5623 and 5625 Acres Rd. be rezoned as business from its residential designation.

Sylvania City Council will host a public hearing on the rezoning request for a 1-acre property on Alexis Road.

The owners of DJF Properties has asked that the parcel at 5904 Alexis Road and 5623 and 5625 Acres Road be rezoned as business from its residential designation. Council set the public hearing for 6:30 p.m. July 21.

The rezoning application lacked details about the property‘‍s future use and at Wednesday’s planning commission meeting, the lawyer for the property owners, Jerry Parker, told officials that the final use of the property is still undetermined.

Mr. Parker said the owners have several parties interested in the property but need it to be rezoned before moving forward. He said the owners plan to develop the parcel commercially, but he gave only examples or possibilities about what might be built on the property.

He pointed to a building on Central Avenue in Sylvania Township that is split between Verizon Wireless on one side and Starbucks on the other, saying that kind of development could be built on the site. The planning commission recommended the rezoning request but cautioned that the site was too small for a fast food restaurant with a drive through.

The property currently has three houses sitting on it. It is located in a commercial corridor of Alexis Road.
