PORT CLINTON — Two Ottawa County airports each will receive more than $1 million in federal funds for pavement upgrades, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D., Ohio) announced Friday.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $1,125,000 to Erie-Ottawa International Airport, near Port Clinton, to rehabilitate its main runway and $1,218,270 to Put-in-Bay Airport to repair its terminal apron, the senator said.

“This is great news for Ottawa County,” he said. “These federal dollars will go a long way in sustaining travel in and out of the airports for area residents and businesses.”

The repairs to Erie-Ottawa’s Runway 18-36 will preserve its structural integrity and reduce the potential for debris on the runway that could harm airplanes, Mr. Brown said. The terminal apron at Put-in-Bay is where travelers board or alight from planes, and where aircraft are parked and fueled.

Both airports are general-aviation facilities.
