The new public information officer being hired by the Collins Administration comes already schooled in public health issues and public relations.

The administration announced today that Stacy Weber will fill the newly created separate post of public information officer.

Ms. Weber has a master‘‍s of public health with specialization and work in public relations in emergency management from the University of Toledo. She is expected to start on Sept. 10, according to Lisa Ward, spokesman for Mayor D. Michael Collins.

Her current job is spokesman and marketing coordinator for the Toledo-Lucas County Department of Health

The move came after criticism of inadequate communication by the administration during the recent water crisis. Mayor Collins said Ms. Ward, the current PIO, will continue as his executive assistant, a title she already holds.

To help pay for the additional job, which will pay a salary of $50,000, the administration eliminated an administrative assistant position.

Mr. Collins was elected last year on a campaign pledge to reduce the mayor’‍s office staffing by 30 percent.

“Stacy brings a wealth of experience as PIO and will be an asset to our administration,” Mr. Collins said today.
