Tigers re-sign reserve SS Ramon Santiago

DETROIT - The Detroit Tigers said Tuesday that they have re-signed backup shortstop Ramon Santiago to a one-year contract.

Santiago, 28, spent most of last season at Triple A Toledo before joining the Tigers in August. He appeared in 32 games with Detroit, hitting .284 and driving in seven runs in 67 at bats.

The Dominican Republic native began his major league career with Detroit in 2002 and played for the Seattle Mariners in 2004-2005. He has a career batting average of .231 with 61 RBIs and six home runs.
