5 Yankees hit HRs in win over Jays
8/25/2010TORONTO - Curtis Granderson hit a three-run homer, Marcus Thames added a two-run drive, and three other Yankees hit solo blasts as New York pounded the Toronto Blue Jays 11-5 Tuesday night.
Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, and Mark Teixeira also connected as the Yankees won for the sixth time in eight games.
Teixeira and Posada both went 4 for 5 with two RBIs, while Thames and Granderson both had three hits. New York's 17 hits were one shy of its season high.
Right-hander Dustin Moseley (4-2) allowed two runs and five hits in six innings to win consecutive starts for the first time this season. He walked four and struck out four.
Chad Gaudin pitched two innings and Kerry Wood worked the ninth for New York.
At Arlington, Texas, Josh Hamilton hit his 29th home run, Michael Young made up for two errors with the tiebreaking RBI single, and Texas beat Minnesota in a matchup of division leaders.
Young's two-out single in the seventh inning off Carl Pavano (15-9) snapped a 3-all tie and put the AL West leaders ahead to stay and ruined the right-hander's sixth complete game of the season.
Darren Oliver (1-1) pitched 11/3 scoreless innings after relieving hardluck starter Colby Lewis. Hard-throwing rookie Neftali Feliz worked the ninth for his 32nd save in 35 chances.
Andres Blanco had two doubles for Texas.
At Chicago, Gordon Beckham hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the seventh, Gavin Floyd pitched seven strong innings, and Chicago beat Baltimore.
The White Sox won for just the fifth time in 15 games, moving within 3 1/2 games of first-place Minnesota in the AL Central.
Luke Scott homered and Felix Pie had three hits for the Orioles, who have lost eight of 12.
A.J. Pierzynski opened the seventh with a single off Orioles starter Jeremy Guthrie. One out later, Mark Teahen hit a double down the right-field line. Beckham followed with a three-run shot to center to break a 2-all tie.
