DETROIT -- Max Scherzer delivered a gutsy 127-pitch performance, the offense blasted three home runs, and the Detroit Tigers won 4-1 over the Cleveland Indians on Friday night in front of a sold-out crowd of 44,222 at Comerica Park.

Scherzer picked up his 13th win of the season by striking out six and surrendering just one earned and five hits in seven innings.

The Tigers backed him with Austin Jackson’s two-run home run in the sixth, followed by back-to-back homers in the seventh by Alex Avila and Jhonny Peralta.

The Indians scored their lone run on Lonnie Chisenhall’s single in the seventh, allowing Carlos Santana to score after Miguel Cabrera’s throw pulled Scherzer off the bag at first.
