Wings' win streak snapped
Chicago -- Corey Crawford made 31 saves to lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night in a matchup of Central Division rivals missing their top centers.
Jimmy Hayes scored the tying goal in the second period and set up Marcus Kruger's winning score in the third as Chicago earned its fourth consecutive victory since a nine-game losing streak.
Valtteri Filppula scored a power-play goal for NHL-leading Detroit, which had won six in a row. Jimmy Howard had 27 stops in his first action since being sidelined for two-plus weeks with a broken right index finger.
While Howard was back in the net for the first time since Feb. 2 at Vancouver, the Red Wings were without leading scorer Pavel Datsyuk. The star center had arthroscopic surgery Tuesday to remove fragments from his right knee and is expected to be sidelined for two weeks.
Datsyuk leads the Red Wings with 43 assists and 59 points, playing a key role in Detroit's record 23-game home winning streak. The Red Wings host Vancouver on Thursday.
Chicago was missing its star center, Jonathan Toews, who was scratched with an upper-body injury and is day to day.
The Blackhawks evened the season series at two games apiece while improving to 7-1 in their last eight home games. Chicago is 21-6-4 at the United Center this season.
Detroit could have a different defensive look when it takes the ice against the Canucks.
The Red Wings acquired Kyle Quincey on Tuesday in a three-team deal that also involved Tampa Bay and Colorado. The Lightning traded forward Steve Downie to the Avalanche for Quincey, who was shipped to the Red Wings for a first-round draft pick and minor league defenseman Sebastien Piche.
Quincey was drafted by Detroit in 2003, and played a role as the Red Wings reached the Western Conference finals in 2007. He played in 13 playoff games, helping fill a void left by injured defenseman Mathieu Schneider.
Piche has been assigned to the Florida Everblades of the ECHL.
He played this season with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins. Last season Piche played 48 games in Toledo and scored 12 goals and added 21 assists for the Walleye.
NOTES: Red Wings F Dan Cleary was activated from injured reserve and played against the Blackhawks. He missed the previous five games with a lower body injury.
Blue Jackets 6, Sharks 3
COLUMBUS -- Jeff Carter had three goals -- two on the power play during Columbus' four-goal first period -- and the last-place Blue Jackets handed the San Jose Sharks their season-high fourth straight loss.
R.J. Umberger and Rick Nash, who is the subject of trade rumors with the deadline less than a week away, had a goal and an assist. David Savard also scored for Columbus. Vinny Prospal added three assists while Derick Brassard had two.
Steve Mason made 38 saves to get the win and surpass Marc Denis as the Blue Jackets' career wins leader.
Logan Couture scored twice and Joe Thornton also had a goal for San Jose. Starting goalie Antti Niemi was pulled after allowing three goals on 11 shots.
