BOWLING GREEN — Former Bowling Green State University player Jerry “BooBoo” Gates has been invited to participate in the rookie camp of the Tennessee Titans.

That makes Gates, 22, who was arrested last week on a drug charge, the seventh member of last season’s Mid-American Conference championship team to strike a deal with an NFL team.

The native of Middletown, Ohio, finished third on the team with 71 tackles in leading the Falcons to the MAC title and a bowl bid for the second straight season.

Gates also closed the book Monday on charges stemming from his arrest in the early morning hours of May 4. At that time police say Gates was observed making a drug deal of two buds (5.0 grams) of marijuana, and he was charged with drug trafficking, a felony.

That charge was dismissed, and Gates instead was charged with permitting drug abuse, a misdemeanor. He pleaded guilty to the lesser charge and was fined $1,125 as well as a $71 dismissal fee.

Gates joins teammates Alex Bayer, Tyler Beck, Jairus Campbell, Aaron Foster, Ted Ouellet, and Cam Truss in having earned berths in NFL camps.
