Browns sign free agent Aaron Berry

Cornerback had problems with Lions, injuries with Jets

CLEVELAND  — The Browns have signed cornerback Aaron Berry.

The unrestricted free agent previously played for Detroit and the New York Jets. He had a season-ending knee injury on the first day of training camp last season.

The Jets signed him in October 2012 after he was arrested twice and cut by the Lions. He played in seven games for New York before being placed on injured reserve with a hamstring problem.

General manager Ray Farmer says the 5-foot-9, 190-pounder will give the Browns depth and possibly help their return game. Farmer also said the Browns “recognize that he’s had missteps, as does he.”

Berry appeared in 19 games and made four starts in two seasons with the Lions. He was released following arrests on DUI suspicion and assault charges.
