LOS ANGELES — An attorney for Shelly Sterling is in probate court seeking an emergency hearing to confirm her authority to sell the Los Angeles Clippers despite opposition from her estranged husband, Donald Sterling.

Representatives of Donald Sterling, potential buyer Steve Ballmer and the NBA are also present today in a Los Angeles County courthouse. Paperwork has been filed but it’s unclear whether an immediate hearing will be granted.

Shelly Sterling contends she is the sole trustee of The Sterling Family Trust, which owns the team. Her attorney, Pierce O’Donnell, says three doctors have filed reports saying Donald Sterling lacks mental capacity to be a trustee.

Donald Sterling’s lawyer says there’s no evidence his client is incompetent.

The Sterlings are not present.
