Genoa grad to make MLB debut against Tigers

Chris Bassitt, a 2007 Genoa High School graduate, is expected to make his major league debut Saturday when he pitches for the Chicago White Sox against the Detroit Tigers.

He is scheduled to be the starter in the second game of a split doubleheader.

At Genoa, he posted an overall record of 48-6 during his junior and senior seasons and helped the team win back-to-back Suburban Lakes League titles. He had a 1.56 ERA as a senior.

He pitched at the University of Akron and made 14 saves, which is second highest on the Zips' career list. He struck out 84 batters in 70⅔ innings, and had a career ERA of 2.29.

Bassitt was drafted by the White Sox in 2007. He was 3-1 with a 1.56 ERA for in six starts for Double-A Birmingham this season.
