Sylvania native Alden Hirschfeld named Walleye captain

Northview graduate coming off his most productive season

Northview High School graduate Alden Hirschfeld has once again been named captain of the Toledo Walleye.

Hirschfeld, a Sylvania native, is in his fifth season with the Walleye. He also served as captain of the team last year when he had the most productive season of his career. Hirschfeld had 49 points with 23 goals and 26 assists in 55 games last year.

In 190 regular season games with Toledo, Hirschfeld has scored 57 goals to go along with 91 assists. The 29-year-old has also scored two goals with five assists in 20 playoff games.

The team also announced that four players, Shane Berschbach, Kyle Bonis, A.J. Jenks, and Simon Denis will share assistant captain duties. Berschbach, Bonis, and Jenks are all ECHL veterans, while Denis is in his second season.

Berschbach, the team’s leading scorer last season, is in his fourth season with Toledo and holds franchise records for most points (86) and assists (68) in a season.

Bonis has played parts of three seasons in Toledo, scoring 56 goals with 41 assists in 106 regular season games. He also has 24 goals and 15 assists in 45 playoff games.

Jenks begins his fourth season with Toledo. He has scored 57 goals to go along with 59 assists in 143 regular-season games. He also has tallied 18 goals and 13 assists in 44 playoff games.

Denis started his pro career in Toledo last season and posted 15 goals and 40 assists.

The Walleye open the season on Friday at Quad City and then travel to Fort Wayne on Saturday.
