Walleye’s 3-game winning streak snapped

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Toledo Walleye saw their three-game winning streak snapped Sunday in a 3-0 loss to the Fort Wayne Komets at Memorial Coliseum.

The Komets (20-8-2), winners of three in a row, scored all of their goals in the second period. Shawn Szydlowski had two goals and Gabriel Desjardins had the other. Mason Baptista had two assists for Fort Wayne.

Szydlowski got the scoring going for the Komets at the 3:37 mark, thanks to assists by Baptista and Cody Sol.

Desjardins registered his 12th of the season with 6:50 left in the period. Louick Marcotte and Dennis Kravchenko had the assists.

Szydlowski then scored his 18th of the year at the 18:01 mark. Baptista and Garrett Thompson had the assists.

The Walleye (20-9-2) outshot Fort Wayne 37-25, but was 0-for-3 on the power play. Toledo did kill off the only man-advantage opportunity the Komets had in the game.

Michael Houser had 37 saves to post his second shutout of the season. He is now 14-6-2 on the year.

Matej Machovsky stopped 22 of 25 shots for the Walleye to fall to 4-6-1 on the season.

The Walleye start a five-game homestand at 7:15 p.m. Friday by hosting Cincinnati. Other games coming up at the Huntington Center including Manchester at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Fort Wayne at 7:15 p.m. Jan. 12, Kansas City at 7:15 p.m. Jan. 13, and Cincinnati again at 5:15 p.m. Jan. 14.
