The property on which longtime West Toledo grocer Churchill's Super Market is located at 2845 West Central Ave. is for sale.

The 1.2-acre site, which is owned by a trust comprising family members of the late Maj. Gen. Walter A. Churchill, features a 10,000-square-foot building that has served as a Churchill's Super Market since 1947. It was the fourth grocery store started by the Churchill family, and the only one remaining in operation that was begun by the late General Churchill.

The asking price for the property -- on the southwest corner of Central at Cheltenham Road -- is $615,000. It is being marketed by commercial real estate firm Reichle Klein Group of Toledo.

An official from the trust that owns the building said it has not been determined what would happen to Churchill's Super Market if the property is sold to a new owner. Several options might be available, including remaining as a tenant.

Walt Churchill, Jr., the son of General Churchill who operates two Walt Churchill's Markets supermarkets in Perrysburg and Maumee, said he has no interest in buying the West Toledo store site.

"It's a good little store, and it's done very well. It's always been a good meat and deli store, but it needs love and care," he said. "I have no interest in buying it, but I wouldn't mind having a store in that general area. The area has a lot of good customers."
