More than 50 energy efficiency projects have been completed through the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority’s BetterBuldings Northwest Ohio program.
The program began in June, 2010. It provides financing for projects through the establishment of an Energy Special Improvement District. The program enables building owners to pay back the cost of improvements through long-term, fixed-rate special assessments on their buildings.
Kevin Moyer, executive director of BetterBuildings Northwest Ohio, said projects completed so far have ranged in value from $25,000 to more than $5 million for a total investment of more than $20 million.
He said the projects result in energy savings that “are generally sufficient to pay for the improvements and provide positive cash flow to the businesses.”
