Sylvania City Council has approved the Pine Tree Village housing development on Heidaway Lane that had raised resident concerns about flooding.

City Service Director Kevin Aller told council at its June 3 meeting that Sylvania-based Millstream Development, owned by the Wamsher family, removed eight dead ash trees from 5930 Heidaway Lane that posed a risk of falling into Schreiber Creek and creating a flood problem.

While the area has been flood-prone, Mr. Aller said the 18-unit ranch duplexes on 2.98 acres would not worsen the risk. Three planned drainage swales for the site have a capacity of 75,000 gallons of water, meeting the city’s zoning requirements, he said.

Construction is expected to start soon. Completion is expected in September.
