The 2013 Fall Parade of Homes, presented by the Home Builders Association of Greater Toledo, opens Friday. And unlike its recent home shows, one-fifth of the scattered site show will take place in the city of Toledo.
The upcoming parade features 15 homes, priced between $120,000 and $600,000 and constructed by 11 area home builders. The homes are in Sylvania, Perrysburg, Holland, Northwood, Monclova, Whitehouse, Waterville, and Toledo.
While it’s not unusual to see a parade home in Toledo, HBA executive director Bill Brennan said this year there are three within the city, which is rare because the city no longer has much land available for subdivisions.
“We have three homes in city of Toledo. We’ve had some in the past, but I’m not sure we’ve ever had three that I can recall,” he said.
Two of the homes are by Eagle Creek Builders off of Dorr Street west of U.S. 23 in the Wingate Meadows and Village of Plum Grove subdivisions. The third is by JLJ Development and is in the Brooklynn Park development off of Dorr just east of U.S. 23.
This year’s parade features five homes in either Whitehouse, Waterville, or Monclova.
Mr. Brennan credits the improved U.S. 24 “Fort to Port” highway that created an expressway between Waterville and Napoleon.
“You wonder if that’s not part of the equation now,” Mr. Brennan said. “It’s certainly the strongest showing we’ve seen in Whitehouse in a while. We had thought that with the access to the new U.S. 24 that that area would grow. And we think that’s certainly the case.”
Myles Development builder Joe Torti, who is featuring a parade home in Waterville at his Coventry Glen subdivision, agreed the improved U.S. 24 has helped builders.
The parade “gives me more exposure and marketing,” Mr. Torti said. “It’s very good. The amount of extra foot traffic it provides is worth it.”
Parade home sites will be open Fridays 5 to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 1 to 8 p.m., and Sundays from 1 to 6 p.m. the next two weekends. Tickets are available at all parade home sites and are $5 for adults with children 12-and-under free.
Discount tickets are available at The Andersons store locations.
