Last public apparition slated at Oregon shrine

10/2/2004

Today will be the last scheduled monthly public apparition of the Virgin Mary at Our Lady of Toledo Shrine in Oregon, according to Sally Steadman, the visionary who first began receiving messages in 1992.

Thousands of believers from across the United States have attended the public apparitions in which Mrs. Steadman speaks to the crowd in conveying messages from the apparition.

Mrs. Steadman, 83, said her fragile health led the Blessed Mother to stop her monthly appearances but will receive instructions privately if there is a time of need.

The Toledo Catholic Diocese has ruled that the apparitions are a private revelation and has not approved or disapproved of the shrine.

The prayer service will begin at 2 p.m. today at the shrine, 655 South Coy Rd., Oregon.
