Samaritan's Purse collecting items for tsunami victims

3/12/2005

As a way of helping victims of the southern Asia tsunami, Operation Christmas Child is holding a special Easter-season shoe box collection to provide clothes, school supplies, hygienic items, toys, and more for children affected by the December disaster.

The collection is a project of Samaritan's Purse, the nonprofit Christian organization headed by the Rev. Franklin Graham, son of the Rev. Billy Graham.

The shoe boxes, as with the successful Operation Christmas Child project, are to be filled with a variety of necessities and toys for needy children. A list of recommended items and further details on the shoe boxes are available by calling Samaritan's Purse toll-free at 1-800-442-9120 or online at www.samaritanspurse.org.

Due to time and logistical limits, there will be no local collection points for the shoe boxes. Those who want to contribute must mail their packages by April 4 to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, 801 Bamboo Rd., Boone, N.C., 28607.
