CedarCreek to tie in to talks on leadership

The 11th Annual International Leadership Summit, presented by Willow Creek Church in suburban Chicago, will be held Aug. 10-12 with 130 satellite locations in 52 cities nationwide, including CedarCreek Church, 29129 Lime City Rd., Perrysburg.

The Rev. Bill Hybels, founder and pastor of Willow Creek, will open the conference Aug. 10. Among the other speakers will be Andy Stanley, James Meeks, Jim Collins, and a prercorded video message from Bono, lead singer of rock band U2.

Topics include Focused Leadership, When Business Thinking Fails the Church, the Power of Clarity, Dead Leader Running, and Tribal Warfare. Gospel singer Nicole C. Mullen will lead a praise and worship session on Aug. 11.

The summit runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 10, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 11, and 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 12.

ELMORE Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church will continue its yearlong Centennial Celebration with a special outdoor worship service at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

Among those scheduled to attend are former pastors the Rev. John Morris, the Rev. Fred Hagen, and the Rev. Martin Billmeier.

An old-fashioned potluck church picnic is slated after the service. Those attending are asked to take a dish to share.

CAREY The Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation will hold a novena Aug. 6-14 to prepare for the Aug. 15 Feast of the Assumption of Mary.

The novena draws thousands of people each year with the largest crowd expected Aug. 14 for the 9 p.m. candlelight procession from the basilica to the national shrine, where Bishop Leonard Blair will celebrate Mass for the Vigil of the Feast.

There will be Masses at 7 and 11 a.m. daily during the novena, reconciliation at 7 p.m. daily except Sundays, and evening devotions at 8 with prayer, rosary procession, homily, and benedication of the Blessed Sacrament.

The Rev. Troy Overton, the novena speaker, will preach each weekday at 8 p.m. and on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Masses on Aug. 14 and 15 will be celebrated in English, Chaldean, and Italian.
