Local Baha is to honor prophet

The Baha is of Northwestern Ohio are holding an observance of the martyrdom of the prophet the Bab Thursday in Sylvania s Olander Park.

The Bab, whose Arabic name means the Gate, prophesied the coming of Baha u llah, the founder of the Baha i Faith. The Bab was executed by a firing squad on July 9, 1850, in Tabriz, Persia, which is in modern-day Iran.

The service will also include prayers for Iranian Baha is who have been imprisoned in Iran. The prayers will include the seven Baha i leaders known as the Friends of Iran who have been imprisoned for more than a year without being formally charged or being given access to legal representation.

The service will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Shelter No. 2 at Olander Park, 6930 West Sylvania Ave., Sylvania.
