3-time Grammy winner slates free Toledo concert
10/8/2010Israel Houghton, three-time Grammy Award-winning gospel singer, will give a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Cornerstone Church, 1520 Reynolds Rd., Maumee. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Mr. Houghton is the worship leader of Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church in Houston, the nation's largest church with 43,500 average weekly attendance. He recently released his 10th album, “Love God, Love People.”
In 1995, Israel and Meleasa Houghton founded New Breed Ministries, an organization they still run and that includes noted musicians and singers who serve within their respective churches and together serve the church at large. Since then, Mr. Houghton has recorded two gold albums and, in addition to winning three Grammys, has won six Dove Awards, two Stellar Awards, and a Soul Train Award.
