Toledo's St. Pius X seeks used shoes for the needy

1/28/2011

St. Pius X Parish, 3011 Carskaddon Ave., will be collecting gently worn shoes for people in need next month as part of the global Soles4Souls outreach.

The shoe charity from Nashville has distributed more than 10 million pairs of new and used shoes to needy people, especially children, in 125 nations since 2005. “We need our partners in Toledo, Ohio, to help us change the lives of more than 300 million children worldwide who do not own a pair of shoes,” said Wayne Elsey, founder and chief executive officer of Soles4Souls, adding, “the need is greater than ever.”

St. Pius is asking Toledoans to clean out their closets and consider donating gently worn shoes to the program by taking the shoes to the parish between Feb. 1 and Feb. 28.
