Rabbi Yossi Shemtov teaches children about the blowing of a shofar before the start of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, during a program at the Chabad House in Toledo.

The festival of Rosh Hashanah, starting at sundown Wednesday night, celebrates the creation of Adam and Eve. Its central observance is the sounding of the shofar, the ram’s horn, which also represents a call to repentance.
