Female bishop speaks for Women's Day

5/10/2013

The first and only female bishop in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church will be the keynote speaker at the Women's Day banquet of Phillips Temple CME Church Saturday, May 18, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hotel at the University of Toledo Medical Center, 3100 Glendale Ave. “I will be talking about healthy relationships among women,” Bishop Snorton said, and “the bonding we need to do at the spiritual level.” She cited part of Ruth 1:16, “whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.”

Bishop Snorton is one of 11 active bishops in the CME Church, and she presides over churches in Alabama and Florida. In September she will begin a year's service as chair of the college of bishops, in addition to her regional assignment.

Phillips Temple's banquet will have a three-meat Southern soul food buffet and a live band. Tickets are $50 per person, $375 for tables of eight. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 419-902-5772 or call the church at 419-242-7906.
