Sister Jennifer Marie Zimmerman will make her final profession of vows as a member of the Sisters of Notre Dame Sunday at 2 p.m. at Christ the King Church, 4100 Harvest Lane. The profession ceremony, with vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, completes Sister Jennifer Marie’s steps on the path to permanence as a member of the religious order; she made her first profession in December 2007.

Sister Jennifer Marie, whose home parish in Defiance is St. John the Evangelist, works at Notre Dame Academy as co-director of pastoral services and the strength and conditioning coach in the school’s athletics department.

A decade at church

Thomas Temple Church of God in Christ celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Rev. Susan Coleman being presiding pastor of the Toledo church, 2140 Ashland Ave., through Sunday.

Thomas Temple will hold religious education Sunday at 10 a.m. and a worship service afterward, and then at about 4 p.m. there will be a free banquet to celebrate Pastor Coleman’s anniversary. The day will conclude with an evening worship service.

Pastor Coleman was ordained by Bishop Frank Richard, Jr.; she was named his successor in Thomas Temple’s pulpit when he died in 2003, and she was installed in April 2004. She became the first female pastor of the church, which was founded by Archbishop Curtis Ernest Thomas 60 years ago and expanded with locations in Sandusky, Detroit, and Marion, Ind.

She wrote and produced the film, which aired on many ABC stations in 2012. This is Sister Judy’s second Gabriel Award, which is also known as the “Catholic Emmy.”

Festival dates set

The International Festival of the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo, a popular community event, has been set for Sept. 14 and 15 .

The Islamic Center was seriously damaged by a fire set in 2012. The prayer hall and the rest of the mosque’s building were being repaired and restored for six months after the arson.

The return of the festival is another indication of the Islamic Center returning to serving the wider community, as well as expressing gratitude for Toledo’s support during the Islamic Center’s recovery.
