Celebrate with the Coptics

The Egyptian Festival continues at St. George Coptic Orthodox Church, 4680 Waterville-Monclova Rd., Monclova, today from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and tomorrow noon to 6 p.m. Featured today is a car show from 1 to 4, offering gas cards and $150 for best in show; car registratino is $10. A farmers' market accompanies the festival tomorrow.

Walk through many gardens

MultiFaith Grows of the MultiFaith Council of Northwest Ohio, and First Unitarian Church of Toledo, a green sanctuary congregation, are teaming to offer a self-guided tour of community gardens in Toledo and Sylvania tomorrow from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., plus refreshments afterward at the Unitarian Universalist church, 3205 Glendale Ave. Gardens on the tour are at Masjid Saad Foundation, Congregationi B'nai Israel, Glenwood Community Garden, Grace Presbyterian Church, the Padua Center, and First Unitarian. Nursing as faith

The Faith Community Health Ministry Program of Northwest Ohio offers a foundations of faith community nursing education course Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 800 S. Detroit Ave. It costs $350, and those who complete the course receive certificates and pins, as faith community nurse for RN's and as health minister for all others. The course is open to anyone. Dignified school uniforms

Project Dignity at Pilgrim Church will distribute free school uniforms to those who cannot afford to purchase them on Saturday, August 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church, 1375 W. Sylvania Ave., and will have food and games for children at the back to school fair. In order to meet the need—last year, it gave more than 600 uniforms to families—Project Dignity has collected clothing and now is asking for financial donations. Project Dignity is a year-round mission of the church that, besides the uniform giveaway, offers children's and women's clothing by appointment, and it also has gently used toys at Christmas time. Annual assumption novena at shrine

The Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation offers its annual novena marking the assumption of Mary Tuesday through Aug. 13. the religious service takes place at 8 p.m. every day except Sunday, Aug. 11, when it will be at 2:30 pm. The theme is “Year of Faith,” and the Rev. Thomas Orians, director of Graymoor Spiritual Life Center in Garrison, N.Y., who is a Franciscan Friar of the Atonement, is the preacher. Father Orian, a native of Tiffon, was baptized at the shrine when he was an infant.

After the novena days, the assumption feast will be celebrated Wednesday, Aug. 14, with a 9 p.m. procession from the basilica to the shrine park and a vigil Mass celebrated by Bishop Leonard Blair of the Roman catholic Diocese of Toledo.
