Gospel Workshop

Grammy-winning gospel singer and evangelist Dorinda Clark-Cole's 15th annual Singers & Musicians Arts Conference, a national presentation of workshops, showcase performances, and concerts, will be held for the first time in Toledo from Wednesday through Saturday at Mt. Pilgrim Church, 1401 Hoag St. Artists and preachers are on the agenda, and representatives of the Berklee College of Music will be involved in the youth portions.

At 7 p.m. nightly, guest speakers and psalmists will be on the bill, including, on Thursday, Bishop Hezekiah Walker, who is senior pastor of Love Fellowship Tabernacle the Kingdom Church in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Bensalem, Pa., and presiding prelate of the Pentecostal Churches of Jesus Christ—as well as a Grammy winner—and, on Friday, Bishop Paul S. Morton, senior pastor of Changing a Generation Full Gospel Baptist Church in Atlanta and presiding bishop of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International. Friday at 7 p.m. is the Mattie Moss Clark Legends Ceremony, recognizing Dorinda Clark-Cole's mother, who herself was a well-known performer.

Workshops begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday through Friday, and Friday's 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. session is the SMAC arts education day with Berklee.

Saturday at 6 p.m. features the Dorinda Clark-Cole appreciation concert, and among those onstage will be Tamela Mann, a gospel singer who played Cora Jean Simmons-Brown on the TBS sitcom Meet the Browns.

Ethics for church staff

Presenter Pat Oedy-Murray will cover topics including relationship management, confidentiality, and differences between power and authority, and whether personal experiences, such as illness, divorce, or the death of a loved one, qualify a person to provide ministry in those areas.

The workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Toledo at the diocese's Catholic Center, 1933 Spielbusch Ave., and from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. then repeated from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Aug. 21 at St. Michael Parish, 750 Bright Rd., Findlay. Registration is $10 if paid one week before the workshop, $15 at the door if space is available.
