Ohio chapel to undergo $12 million in renovations
11/29/2013DAYTON, Ohio — A chapel that’s central to the University of Dayton will undergo $12 million in renovations beginning next year.
The university says the Immaculate Conception Chapel will get improvements to its interior. Built in 1869, the chapel’s historic dimensions and iconic cupola are expected to be largely unchanged.
The Catholic university says it jumped closer to its fundraising target for the project after a recent anonymous gift of $3 million. It’s now just $1 million shy of its goal of $12 million, and expects to reach that by March.
The upgrades will start in August and include added restrooms, a reconciliation room, support space and a bride’s room.
Masses and weddings will be temporarily suspended this summer. Services are expected to resume in August 2015 when the chapel is rededicated.
