6/14/2014Gettysburg calls
Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, Pa., announced Wednesday that the Rev. Angela Zimmann will join the school in August as an advancement and communications executive who will also be involved in teaching and making theological education more accessible.
The Rev. Zimmann and her husband, the Rev. Martin Zimmann, 1998 graduates of Gettysburg, are from Springfield Township. They moved with their two children to Jerusalem in February 2013 to serve as co-pastors of a Lutheran congregation and as special assistants to the bishop there. Martin Zimmann is in discussions about serving a congregation near Gettysburg.
Neighbors wanted
The Who's My Neighbor? International Festival returns to Holland for its third year today from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. More than 100 churches and community groups participate in the festival. Those who want to be in the parade of nations are encouraged to dress in national costume and assemble at 10:30 a.m.
The festival is at the Proclaim FM Events Center, 7112 Angola Rd., Holland. Admission is free.
Gaillardetz is guest
RIchard Gaillardetz, the former professor of Catholic studies at the University of Toledo, returns to northwest Ohio for a Monday speaking engagement, 5:30 to 7 p.m., at the Franciscan Center of Lourdes University, 6832 Convent Blvd., Sylvania. Mr. Gaillardetz, now at Boston College, will deliver the Sylvania Franciscan Village‘s second annual Karl Rahner Lecture, “The Francis Moment: A New Kairos of Catholic Ecclesiology.” Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Limits limited
Toledo Country Limits, a country music-oriented worship service at the United Methodist Church of St. Andrew, 3620 Heatherdowns Blvd., has been held every Saturday since April 23, 2008. It has reached a limit, of sorts, and will take 10 consecutive Saturdays off before returning Sept. 6.
The final two 6 p.m. service today features music by Johnny Cash. On June 21 at 6 p.m., crew members will have fun in the fashion of the TV show Hee Haw.
Swampy support
The Black Swamp Benefit is at the Fulton County Fairgrounds in Wauseon, 8491 Hwy. 108, Friday and June 21. The festival supports Sunshine, a nonprofit organization for people in northwest Ohio who have developmental disabilities, and the Mennonite Central Committee. Admission is free, but there are plenty of opportunities to spend money.
The BSB Jam, a Christian music concert featuring Jason Gray, Mikeschair, and Audio Adrenaline, is Friday at 7 p.m., with advance tickets costing $12 for groups of 12 or more and $15 for general admission, available at www.blackswampbenefit.org, www.itickets.com, or 419-335-3763, ext, 5010.
Rachel retreat
Project Rachel, a program of Catholic Charities Diocese of Toledo, is offering a retreat June 21, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., for women who have had abortions recently or in the past who want to find healing and peace. Cost, including lunch, is $20; advance registration is required and scholarships are available. The location is being kept confidential.
