Pope Francis’ planned appearance in Philadelphia Sept. 25-27 at the eighth World Meeting of Families, held every three years since it started in Rome in 1994, is generating attention for the Roman Catholic Church conference.

The World Congress of Families, a project of the Howard Center for Family, Religion & Society in Rockford, Ill., has announced the initial lineup for its ninth congress — though the eighth meeting, since the congress planned for Moscow in 2014 was canceled — to be in Salt Lake City on Oct. 27-30.

The first World Congress of Families was in Prague in 1997. Australian Christian evangelist Nick Vujicic, Charmaine Yoest, who is the president of Americans United for Life, and Lila Rose, the president of the nonprofit media organization Live Action, are scheduled as speakers. Entertainers the Piano Guys are also on the bill. More participants will be listed weekly on the congress website, wcf9.org.
